Dutch Mates finds its inspiration from a mostly forgotten style, Dutch Koyt. This Hazy IPA is the latest addition to our SE Portland taproom.
Style: Hazy IPA / ABV: 5.0% / IBU: 40
Koyt was traditionally made largely of oats with the remainder being made up of wheat and barley. Our take on the style uses 50% oats for a smooth mouthfeel and an eerily pale hue.
In the kettle we wait until the last moment to add enormous amounts of Mosaic hops and a complimentary addition of Citra. Mosaic brings out ripened pineapple, papaya, mango, and hints of dank pine. We use a heavy hand in the dry hopping at over 2lbs per BBL to bring in-your-face hoppy goodness on the nose.
All the juicy, lush, tropical hops you know from the hazy IPA’s of now with the malt profile of an esoteric Dutch style that travelled its own path.
