We love an English Ale around here at Away Days so we’re excited to launch our first ever Ordinary Bitter. Enjoy it now at our SE Portland taproom on draft, cask and in cans to-go!
We teamed up with the extraordinary crew at The BeerMongers to make the most ordinary beer, Mr Ordinary English Bitter.
Mr Ordinary is the first in a series of collaborations that The BeerMongers team are doing for their fifteenth anniversary. As of today, they have been open for 5,344 consecutive days of business! That’s impressive on so many levels and we’re chuffed to be a part of the celebrations.
This Ordinary Bitter clocks in at a sessionable 3.9% with a gentle hopping as to not stand out. We used Marris Otter as the base for a warm, toasty, familiar foundation with a touch of Caramalt for balance.
We tapped the legendary Chris Milner for hop selection, choosing two classically basic hops, East Kent Golding and Willamette. They bring just enough spice and woodiness to enhance quaffability. A very subtle dry hop of Willamette brings a pleasant bit of grassy aroma to the beer.
